ABOUT WALCOT

The members of WALCOT originally met in 2009 while studying together at Taylor University. From 2010 to 2012, Mario Gonzalez (singer, guitarist) was playing university shows in the northern Indianapolis area with his band, The Atlantic. Meanwhile, Asher George (singer, guitarist, keyboard) was working on solo projects and writing music, but mostly honing his craft before releasing it to the public. After graduation, the members of The Atlantic went their separate ways and Mario put music on hold while pursuing a teaching career in an international school outside of the country. In that time, Asher continued to pursue the singer/songwriter role, playing local shows in the Chicago area and slowly making a name for himself as a songwriter/performer largely influenced by classic artists such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Grateful Dead and contemporary bands such as Coldplay, John Mayer and Wilco.

In 2014, Mario returned from his travels abroad and nestled into his Wicker Park apartment in Chicago. While Asher was finishing his Marketing degree at DePaul, the two reunited only to discover what was once so obvious about their musical chemistry back in 2009 had not dwindled, but remained latent and was ready to be rekindled. The two joined forces and decided to form their current project, WALCOT, which focuses on creating music that blurs the lines of genre and integrates sounds from indie rock, jazz, blues, progressive rock and pop.

After a few months of song writing and collaborating, a local producer in the Chicago area discovered the band’s music through DePaul’s music program. After scheduling a meeting to listen to their demos, producers Matt Thompson and Dan Steinman decided to offer WALCOT time at IV Labs Studio to record their self-titled debut EP, WALCOT. The two quickly got to work in the studio and in a few short months, the EP was ready for release. WALCOT will be performing throughout the Chicago area throughout the spring and summer with tentative plans of a tour. Watch this space for updates and news on where to catch them next.
